Malleefowl is listed as vulnerable nationally and in South Australia). Large areas of vegetation that provides important Malleefowl habitat lie between Billiatt Conservation Park and Wilderness area and Murray Sunset National Park. Much of this area is managed by private landholders who work together as the Browns Well Landcare Group to protect the Malleefowl (Leipoa ocellata).
Through this project, MMLAP will support landholders in the Browns Well Land Care Group area to carry out biodiversity conservation activities. The project will deliver coordinated landscape scale fox and rabbit control programs and fencing to protect remnant vegetation that supports Malleefowl.
Land managers in the project area will be supported to increase knowledge of pest control methods and to develop monitoring programs that increase the effectiveness of the programs.
Funding is available for fox control, rabbit control and fencing for Malleefowl conservation.
