Volunteers Get Busy Installing Seed Production Areas

August 23, 2014

Volunteers from the Eastern Hills and Murray Plains Catchment Group recently helped us install 3 seed production areas (SPA’s) at locations in the SA Murray Mallee.

To date, 3 weed mat cells have been installed as well as a native grass orchard and sand-trench areas to grow species for division.

All sites are surrounded by rabbit proof fencing to eliminate grazing pressure. Additionally, each area is irrigated to help establish seedlings and ensure good seed production even in dry years.

Volunteers from the Murray Bridge community nursery also helped with potting up of seedlings as well as caring for them until they were ready for planting in the SPA’s.
